A great win for our Hockey peeps this afternoon, I wonder how many teams didn't show this afternoon (/today) for their BAS game cos they preferred to watch us win Hockey Gold.

My team played at 6:30 and it was really tight... we had just enough to kickoff and had a couple subs show up before the half was over...

There were a few no-shows. Only 1, however, followed the official protocol which is to notify the league via email at least 24 hours before kick-off. I think the schedule for Olympic hockey was made available 4 months ago and we knew that we (Canada) would be playing for gold since Friday night, so there's not really any excuse for simply pulling a "no-show". What's depressing is when an entire team doesn't bother showing. That means that someone on the team sent out an email to all players telling them no to bother going and stay at home. Is it too much to ask for the league to be CC'd on that email??? The message you are sending is, "We have no intention of showing, but we also want to be discourteous and screw-over our opponents in the process."
BAS will donate the $100 fines that are collected to the Canadian Olympic Foundation:

$100.00 donation to the Olympics. Wow what a waste. Sorry for the negativity. My tax dollars go to support the athletes and I am fine with that. What I think works better is if the $100.00 go to the registration of the team that did show up. I see this ass a win; win for the league and the team. League wins because they are holding $100 in trust for a team to come back and play another session. The team wins because they paid to play the game, spent time and money to show up. At the end of the day they are the ones who lost out.
The field was already paid for. The ref’s still received their commission if I am not mistaken. There is no out of pocket expense to the BAS. SO give the $100.00 to the team that paid to play the game but did not of no fault of their own.
If that team does not register for the following session, then the BAS should do what they want with the money.I believe that a fine should be given for a no show. What happens to that money should be up for discussion.

I'm glad at least one team had their act straight...

I watched Sidney get the medal around his neck then bolted for the game and scored the game winner in a 3-2 contest, just like my boy Sidney! I took it all in and had to rush away from a party to make the 6:30 kick off!
The olympic foundation is a good idea, it is only a few teams that no showed so a few hundred bucks is a nice gesture in light of the success we had with our olympians.

$100 should go to the Olympics. I had a no-show last session and used the field to run a kick around with a few friends there family members and even some other team who hadn't left the field were asked to join in. We had a great time and it would have cost way more than $100 to rent the field to do it all again. As the Olympics were so successful this year it is a great idea to show our support and should have thought about some kind of fundraiser sooner to send more in support of all the athletes who competed. The team who showed got three points and a field for an hour. In my opinion that's fair enough. I think raising the fees for each time that team has a no-show is a better idea. Too many captains don't know the rules and regulations in the bas and should be hit harder when they break them continuously.
