Disagree. Three games in one day - come on - I don't care who you are, thats alot to ask of anyone. Our last game, I was spent. We also had a player who rolled on his ankle in the second game and was out for the rest of the day (and the 1st game of the cup finals). Don't get me wrong, this is a fun day, just needs to be tweaked abit.

Have it on a Sunday
Have the finals on that day as well
Have it in the middle of the season (or maybe 3/4's the way through), just not at the end of the year / so close to the cup finals.

I could suggest more, but its not like anyone has ever heard the ideas before.... and I'm sure your all sick of listening to my babble.

Summer OUTDOOR is 18 - 25 matches. If all depends on how well your team does in the playoffs and Cup.

We are scheduled to start May 9th (that could change based on field playability) and Cup final is usually around Thanksgiving.

Ideally it should be Friday evenings , have he first round games starting 7 pm to 12 pm
Saturday rest day
Sunday the final round
In a perfect world -

I the problem with 3 consecutive games is , your muscles tense up after first game , by second game you start seeing ppl with ankle/hamstring issues

Only the strongest and fittest reach the 3rd game

These are all great suggestions, but the logistics have not been considered.

Do you think (for example) that fields are available from 7pm - 12 on Friday nights?

And while I disagree with the broad statement that "only the strongest and fittest reach the 3rd game", that's not necessarily an inappropriate conclusion. If we want to take away the advantage that the "strong and fit" have among us in our sport, then perhaps the tournament should be done on Playstation or Wii this Fall???

OR what about having the first game on a friday night, then have the other 2 games on the saturday? then have the finals on the sunday?

Just a suggestion for future seasons

The fields are not available on Friday as the BAS women (and others) use them.

Also, I can't imagine everyone would be pumped to show up for a single 50 minute match on a Friday.

We do it for indoor! Why not outdoor as well? and ya friday may not be the BEST day but maybe figure out a way to spread the games out some what?

I maybe the only one... but i like the current format. If the weather co-operates and isnt raining or really cold, it makes for an awesome day. The teams can get together for the entire day, play and watch football. 3 shortened games is not too bad as long as you have enough players. If you have 12 for the day your probably in trouble. But if you have 15+ you should be fine, I know last year we had 2 or 3 that didnt make it to the first game but were there for the rest, worked out pretty well as they were able to play the 2nd with fresh legs.

No simmsj, you are NOT the only one who likes the format.

Any tinkering would only placate those who think it needs tinkering at the expense of those who would say, "Why was it changed...it was perfect?". I have to believe that there are just as many who would dislike the Friday matches and be unavailable as those who dislike the Saturday matches. And to make it a 3 day event, rather than a 2 day event is another hurdle, altgether. Make it all on 1 Sunday? Not sure how that satisfies the "too much soccer in 1 day" crowd unless that plan calls for teams to be dropped from the tournament (ie. top 4 only) and I can imagine that that wouldn't be well received.

I enjoy the all day tournament as is, like simms. It's a great way for your team to get together for one last hurrah, knowing that it will be 6-8 months before you play together again.

As for the scheduling of when it occurs relative to BAS Cup games, if I remember correctly, you will have played 2 (maybe 3?) BAS Cup games at this point, so at least 1/2 or 3/4 of the teams in the league are no longer participating and don't have any Cup games to worry about the following week. Also, for those of us fortunate enough to be in the C division, the chances of our teams making a decent run in the Cup is small. This year-end tourney is our championship and we take it seriously.

Perhaps if we added another BAS Cup game somewhere earlier in the season, this will further reduce the # of affected teams. I don't know what the solution is, I just throw things out there to get shot down :)

I'm hoping that this dialog does not create the impression that everything is "shot down". Some of the greatest BAS events including this playoff weekend started as ideas that were proposed (long) before there was a forum. However, some suggestions have merit and others do not. Yours Maico is a good one because it is do-able and I am seriously considering using the Sunday, July 4th as a Cup match weekend this year. Once again, Canada Day falls mid week (Thursday) meaning most won't be fortunate enough to get a long weekend. They'll celebrate Canada Day on Canada Day (as it should be) and will be available to play on Sunday. By the time September rolled around, we would be down to 16 Cup teams with 2 rounds already in the books. This allows for a more efficient playoff tournament.

It no way did I mean to imply that input is not taken. Half the time I throw out ideas that have very little thought behind them, the other half the time they are self serving, so I expect a low success rate :)

As for the Canada day weekend, maybe we could poll the captains of each team to see what their turnout would be like. Would there be enough time to book/cancel the weekend, if that was the case?

Yep I know but like I said in a 'in a perfect world' - I mean if the fields are not available then there is not much that can be done on the 3 day spread

But equally the weather plays a vital role in every thing as well lasy 1 day even was amazing weather probbly the best weather of summer - but the weather is tricky towards end of sesason

Canada day weekend = NO! lol
The format is great, and teams have the right to refuse if they'd like to.
If you could fit it into one day, I'd like that, but the two day bit is good also.
Who the HELL wants to play Friday night as well and drag out a shortened game tourney over three days?? :O :O :O
