$1750 to play select hockey. My eldest son is on the ice 5 times a week. Mind you, he gets two jerseys, practice jersey, a bag, summer jacket, winter jacket & toque.
I just got my son's fees for summer soccer $170. That includes the kit & a bowl of soup...

Wow 1750 for 1 person??? that quite alot ...even if they play 5 times a week ...

Its funny he actually mentioned that there is less fights in rec hockey then what he has seen in his regular trips to watch at the soccer center(comparitively of course to what he has actually seen), and he felt it was due to the cost...
if you blow 150 and are kicked out of a soccer season, so what, but with hockey you are talking 500-600....

You could say the same thing about a price increase for anything. Beer, cigarettes, stamps, water, 'lectricity, gas. Did mail service improve when stamps went from 54 cents to 57 cents last month? Was "more given" for this 6% increase?

Seriously, I was thinking about a field visit by a water truck - you know, once or twice a year in june / july would be nice... maybe some grass seed in early spring... something to make things better... not to just keep them the way they are.
Admin, I'm sure you can use examples of beer & smokes all you want... reality is, metro has to make $$ somewhere, nothing like making its populous pay more for physical activity (which, if you think about it, is very short sighted - prices go up and less people get out and work off their mid sections and stay physically fit, less people stay physically fit, the more health issues people have, the more health issues people have, the more the government has to spend on healthcare... see the irony???)

For those who own houses, did you know that since Miller started running the city, there has been a 27% hike in property taxes, FOR WHAT!! We now have to pay for our garbage pick up... no pesticides for our school fields/parks etc (which is really a way to save $$ and has nothing to do with your health)... one only has to look at the front page of todays paper to see the ABSOLUTE STUPIDITY of the people who run this city... (it is for this reason why I feel there should be some sort of license for those who want to have children - stupidity breeds stupidity). But hey, this is TORONTO, and why should soccer fees be any different.

Admin - you mentioned in another post "Sorry folks, soccer pitches will not be immune from the HST come July and while we are on the topic, you can brace yourself for a significant rise for fall 2010 for INDOOR for that very reason."
Correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't the pitches be already booked for 2010 - so the new HST doesn't come into play for this year... Am I wrong?

It has nothing to do with when you book fields, but rather when you pay for them.

It will be interesting to see what happens to this years D1... or that goofy D2 gold / select / diamond (three ref division) - I will bet that a couple of these teams will come to the dark side of D2 single ref due to the rate hike.
should be an interesting summer...
OH... while I'm thinking about this...
So , are we going to have that silly division playoff tournament again???

WOOOO - COME ON BUD, ITS SILLY!!!
Yes its fun to have a couple of pops (like we need an excuse to have pops with buds). With 3 or 4 games in a row, your gonna get injuries.
It could be much more - first - don't have it so close to the BAS playoffs and second make it a one day event - on sunday - that way everyone sticks around & watches the final... how many people went to watch the finals this past summer - 3??? AND I bet 2 of them were girlfriends.

If OTB were in the final the attendance would have been greater! ;)
Also, injuries happen in these tournaments to: 1. Out of shape individuals 2. People who don't warm up before the first game that is generally early enough in the day that you haven't been mobile enough, depending on your day, to have your muscles warm enough to play. 3. People who fail to stretch/keep muscles warm between games 4.Drinking too much between games. ;)

When the weather was onside, there were plenty of spectators at these tournament finals, especially the women's finals.
