wayyy less then that...whats goin on??

The word "wayyy" is very subjective. If by "wayyy", you mean $5/player, then YES, the fee rise is significant, but it was raised $5/player last year and the year before that too, so... ???
Last year, ASSUMING you had a mesh, your team fee was $2355 or $130.83/player for a typical team of 18 (NOTE: the average OUTDOOR roster last year was 19.25 players). This year, ASSUMING you have your mesh, your team fee is $2445 or $135.83/player for a team of 18. If you need the mesh, add $75.
If the question is "Why the increase every year?", dunno. Ask City council who set the field rates and Dolton McGuilty who some how thinks we need another tax. Sorry folks, soccer pitches will not be immune from the HST come July and while we are on the topic, you can brace yourself for a significant rise for fall 2010 for INDOOR for that very reason.

Thanks to Dalton, I mean Norman Bates, every sport will have to pay the HST. I think $135 per player is a very fair price to pay to play soccer. You can thank all your liberal voters for the increase.

You should see what refs are being asked to pay this year.
Posted 5 months ago | # | -
Refs dont pay for much considered when they do games they are paid cash and dont have to claim it for taxes

Will there be any kind of early bird discount like previous sessions?

Keep voting liberal you numpties!

There is never been any discount for OUTDOOR.
Posted 5 months ago | # | -
Not too derail the topic, but has there ever been consideration to having a discount for paying for both indoor sessions at once? Or a bigger deposit in the fall to secure a spot in the winter, with a discount for 2nd session?
Posted 5 months ago | # | -
If there was to be an Early Pay Discount for OUTDOOR, the money would have been due a few days ago. The "optics" aren't the greatest when money is being collected for the next session 1 week into the current session.
BTW, for all those who ask why deposits are being collected for the Summer in March (I'm getting emails on this, already), the youth clubs' registrations start next week and that's "full pop", NOT a deposit AND I don't think their season (houseleague) starts until June. So, by mid-Febraury houseleague kids will be signed up and paid-in-full for a season that doesn't start until 4 month's later. And if you want to sign your child up late (after end of March), no problem, but the fee increases from $170 to $190.

I remember paying $70 - $80 dollars to play house league soccer! $2500 - $3000 it will almost cost your team to play this summer. JUST to play some football on a Sunday!!! Yay, let's keep voting Dalton "I'll find more ways to take all of your money and waste it so you can't afford to live a happy life" Mcf***head!
Seriously, how has some insane person not decapitated this guy yet! Keep voting liberal people....

Yeah, thats mind blowing, all that money to use a field, which in most cases the city is too cheap to bring in a dump truck of top soil to maintain the field in good condition.
Posted 5 months ago | # | -
damn the city...wasting money on flowers instead of keeping the pitches in nice condition.

Maybe some water on the fields once in awhile Hmmmm?
P.S Liberals are OK - problems is Dalton's an ass and Toronto City Council is full of money grubb'n morons.

Oh jeez, I forgot about the weeds. With the ban now in full swing, it likely won't be pretty this summer. Last year I took a picture of Morris "the Gerbil" Kerbel in June. I think I deleted the photo, but whatever weed control previously used on the field was successful in preventing the dandelions from infiltrating the pitch. They were dense around the perimeter on areas not treated, but are very sparse on the actually pitch. We now have to assume that since weed control has been banned with no effective, organic alternatives, the pitch will eventually be covered with the dandelions that previously only dotted the perimeter.
I hope I'm wrong, but if I'm right, I will be relying on our members to affect change in this regard. NO, the province is not going to relent and allow the municipalities to "DDT" the fields again, but I often wonder how strongly the safe alternatives are being pursued.

There are no safe alternatives... well... there are but they don't work. Those book reading, cappuccino sipp'n hippies can try everything... but if it doesn't contain complex molecular structures... its as good as asking the plants not to grow on the pitch.

If that's true, then we might as well cancel OUTDOOR soccer eventually. And it's not just a matter of wanting to play on a nice, green pitch. Dandelions grow much faster than grass. If you were to cut the grass on Friday for a Sunday match, the grass would be perfect. The dandelions that were cut, however, would already be up above your ankles. That's fine when there's a few of them here and there. Try playing when the field is covered in them. You can't.

indoor soccer > outdoor soccer

What ever happened to the notion soccer is the cheapest sports in world
X_xI always use that as an argument for it being 'the best' sport in the world. Anyone play other sports and have a level of measure for us. I don't participate in anything else, so I really don't know how it stacks up.

I haven't played organized league hockey since 1982, but I recall there being much consternation among my folks back then because it was $140 to register. I'm sure another $400 or $500 was doled out every-other-year on equipment. I'm guessing it's likely $300 or $400 nowadays to register? Maybe $500 for used equipment? Another $200 for skates?
I know this is likely an unfair comparison because it's not apples-to-apples, but does anyone want to play in Vaughan this summer? :

I was talking to a friend on Friday night, he plays in a mens rec hockey league in brampton and i believe he said the league fee was $7500 per team...

Sounds plausible. And the games are shorter and so are the rosters. Your buddy probably lays out $500 just to register. A whole "after-game" culture has sprung up around men's (and I assume women's) rec hockey whereby everyone on the team hits the sponsoring pub after the match for a few pops and munchies. This has to take place so that these sponsors can offset the $7500 fee mentioned above.

I remember playing hockey as a kid i stopped about 10 years ago but even then it was $250 to $300 a season to play hockey and that was just to sign up. i assume its gone up by about $100 in the last 10 years or so. I also play shinny hockey with buddies some friday nights and just to rent the ice for an hour AFTER midnight its about $150 per hour, before midnight i believe its upwards of $200 or more per hour.
