I usually play in Division B/C, I think. It's been awhile. I haven't played with the Brampton league for over a year or two. I've been playing in Caledon this year on an outdoor league to get back in shape (not sure if it's working). This league is a just for fun, go out and play, sportsmanship league, not competitive at all, but sometimes you have the urge to be, which I miss. What division does your team play in?

The full positing can be seen at:
http://community.bramptonsoccer.com/topic/34
Please click on the link above or copy and paste it into your internet browser to add your name to the list of players that want a Summer Co-Ed Outdoor Division.

http://community.bramptonsoccer.com/topic/34

My goal in starting this petition is for BAS to be allocated more soccer fields by the city of Brampton during the week (Monday - Thursday) so that we (as players) may be able to have an outdoor co-ed division in which we may compete in.

Please add your name and state the day (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) you would prefer to play on in the summer by replying to this message.

Hopefully, with enough interest the city of Brampton will grant our wishes and allocate enough fields for BAS to offer a co-ed outdoor division during the week.

***Rumour is that the city of Brampton will be meeting either the first week of March 2010, or the second week of March 2010. Thus, if you are interested please help by spreading the word and getting everyone you know that would want to play to add their name to the petition.

Finally I think someone is getting what I'm saying. 'me', welcome to the forums... ...you hit the nail on the head and it was sort of what I was going for. It's a sport where contact is inevitable and like I said, I'm not advocating excess physicality against the women or saying that if it does occur no one should protest - what I was getting at is specifically what you were saying. It's the whimpering during an entire match. The complaining, the irrational and unreasonable sense of entitlement some players seemed to have.

I'm glad I'm not the only dissenting voice.

I am a girl and i play in the competitive divison and have since it started. I don't think its too rough at all. Its coed and if I didnt want to play against men, i wouldnt play in this division. I cannot, however, understand the whining and complaining i hear on the field! its unbelieveable, really. And its mostly from the guys! Every call the referee makes or doesnt make, he is wrong. its really annoying and i think in that regard, people are taking it too seriously. I had 2 games this season where the opposing team (2 different teams) had a player literally Bi**h out the referee for 5 minutes after being red carded and walking to the changeroom. ANd loud! with little kids watching. I have players onm my team who have played competitively or still are outsde the BAS and I know that they would never be caught dead acting that way in Friday night Co-ed league, so i dont think "compeitive" or skilled players are the ones to worry about, its all the others!
Either way i love co-ed and just wish everyone had as much fun as i do!

Why dont we put it to admin that if a player recieves a red card in the coed then there session is done. If a player playing for there mens/womens team recieves a red card then there out for coed too.

And then we can drag them out into the street and shoot them like the filthy mongrels they are!

Seriously though - so a statement to a referee, done in a quiet and relaxed tone, albeit entirely dissident, warrants having a very 'fair and non-confrontational' coed player banned for the rest of the session? Use your own team as a litmus test here and ask yourself how you'd have reacted if your proposed rule had been in play last session.

I agree with the maturity point. I have also made a few challenges in the coed league over the last few sessions that I aint proud of. But I have recieved my fair share aswell. I pick myself up, have my complaint to the referee and play on. Your challenge sums it all up. It was clumsy on your part. Most challenges go down to being clumsy. If its reckless enough then the referee can do something about it. Why dont we put it to admin that if a player recieves a red card in the coed then there session is done. If a player playing for there mens/womens team recieves a red card then there out for coed too. Its a really fun part of the BAS that they introduced coed and it has been a success. As for you MB7 - you past to everyone on your team? Why dont you do it on your other teams? :) Just messing buddy. You know I luv ya!

I play as competitive as any and have for many years. No way will I ever lose that edge, even if I'm old and sore and only able to cheer/scream from the sidelines - my voice will be competitive! lol
However, I played a coed game in the midweek and played with some adults that were either first timers/less skilled, coming back from a long term injury, or out to have fun. We got thumped, yet I had a tonne of fun with my new team. I definitely made the worst tackle of the game because I couldn't take away that edge for a split second and it was only a trip as a guy came passed me. I ran straight off the field for a sub knowing it maybe wasn't the right thing to do considering the setting.
This has a lot to do with maturity too folks, not just competitiveness! Just remember what the consequences are and what is really at stake. (not the bloody $3 medal) The way people view you as a player/person, your chances of getting picked up by another team when your team sees how reckless/dangerous you are and gives you the boot.
Respect the players, respect your team, and respect the league. I'm in agreeance that relaxed lower division coed is great because you can incorporate everyone who loves the game, regardless of ability.
Oh and GDDreamerz - I am almost positive I passed the ball to every player on my team that night, regardless of talent level. ;)

I think my point was missed a bit; it isn't the competitive nature or the going all out for the win that I'm calling into question, it's the attitude. I don't think I've seen a bigger collection of whingers anywhere - the top level coed division is filled with people more concerned with debating with one another, their own team mates, the referee, anyone in attendance, then they are with enjoying themselves.

Is it not possible to play competitively, fairly and with a positive outlook towards the game and the other people participating in it with you?

I guess when one of those $3.00 medals is at stake, the answer is 'no'.

If you look at the pyramid, there is always greater interest in playing in the lower divisions. And I guess that's how it should be. What's remarkable is there is also a greater following among the lower divisions too. I had the pleasure of attending most of the Fall finals and the spectators at a division "C" final will easily outnumber those at an "A" final by a large margin. We can only assume that perhaps that "fun vibe" simmsj refers to is contagious. I would hope, however, that even the most elite player in BAS is really just here for fun. For 99% of the registrants in this league (like it or not), our best days of soccer are behind us (well, unless you're 21 and just started playing), we are not being paid to play, there are no scouts watching, and we carry our own water bottles.

Saying that people dont want to get injured means nothing when you talk about BAS. I played for a coed team a few sessions back and at the time we could have been called division B and my keeper got has leg smashed to bits in a 50/50 ball. The next session I started my own team in division A where all my players made it to the end of the session with nothing. I then watched the womens finals at the weekend just past. First game (division C) nothing much in the way of injuries. Next game (division B) goalkeeper taken to hospital with a nasty ankle injury. The last game ( division A) Not even as much as a nasty challenge. The reason can be more than a million reasons although I look at it as the higher the division- the higher the level of play. People in the lower division tend to back out of challenges once the are already commited to making it causing more chance of injuring themself and others. In the higher divisions the players should know whats happening at every minute of the game. Taking a challenge is just as important as giving one. Injuries are going to happen at anytime and anywhere and in any sport.

Seems to me that most of the issues you have seen are in the B level... Players not good enough or smart enough to play in A, but with enough physical ability to seriously hurt somebody.
I can say, i have played at the C level for both mens and co-ed teams for over a year and have seen one serious injury and that was in coed when a player stepped on the ball by himself with no one around him 3 min into the first game of the season and destroyed his ankle...pretty unluckey. Otherwise almost nothing but fair play and clean challenges.
I think at the C level, espically for co-ed, most players keep it pretty fun. They usually have there mens or womens team to play serious on and can relax, play co-ed and then go for beers afterwards. Teams likes, Fightin Irish, Loose Cannons.. etc have been keeping a good vibe in C coed for sometime now and i hope it continues..

interesting discussion goin on here...

i have wondered what it would be like if i played co-ed... it gets old playing rec or comp soccer with guys all the time... i mean when i think of co-ed i think of PLAYING FOR FUN... i mean i always play competitively and sometimes things can get heated with words or tough tackles, but for the most part once the game is over i will shake hands knowing IT IS JUST A GAME.... in case you guys didnt know i am a goalkeeper, and i play strong and crazy at times, yet even if i am playing rec ball i will still have that competitiveness that will make a forward weary of entering my 18yd box... anyways... with regards to letting a forward get a free pass to goal in a 7-0 game? no thanks.. id much rather take my chances with a handball outside the box or fouling the forward with a sort of bearhead tackle so he cant score but doesnt get injured... hopefully the ref will be sympathetic with the scoreline and just give the foul and maybe 2mins...

at the end of the day no one wants to get injured... we just want to play.. but the biggest problem i see in all leagues, and ive played in most of them in the GTA... is players both competitive and rec players -- they do not know when to TURN ON or TURN OFF that competitiveness that might make them slide hard into a tackle that really doesnt need that sort of challenge.... for the most part though, many competitive players have learned through experience that we are playing for the love of it and we shake hands and come home to our families and jobs after soccer....

it is up to the elite players (or competitive players) or those who THINK they are worthy of being competitive players to set an example for onlookers and aspiring players. If WE lead by example hopefully we can all learn the true meaning of sportsmanship, team-unity, fairplay, and PASSION for this great sport we all love.

I want to give you guys a situation and you tell me if it is being competitive or just stupid.
The game is already 7-0 for the blue team. The blue team sends a 50/50 ball to the top of the box where the blue winger and the yellow goalie are both racing to the ball. The winger is 5’6” 150 lbs wet. The goalie is 6’ 3” 220 lbs.
The goalie seeing that there is going to be a collision, simply steps aside and lets the winger score into the empty net.
1.	Is the goalie not being competitive? Or
2.	Is the winger the luckiest guy in the world?
My thought on this situation is the winger should have realized that the game is already in hand. Taken the free pass and kick it out of bounds. Then thanked the goalie for letting him live another day.
My point is simple. In a close game I think you should go all out in any division. At the same time I think you got to realize that it is not worth getting hurt. In a blow out you got to let the competitive part go and just have some fun.
